asamisimasa performs Music as Emotion by the Norwegian composer Trond Reinholdtsen. Reinholdtsen’s piece sees the ‘composer’ seeking advice from a psychologist on how to create a more personal art. His witty questions about emotions within music resonate with the current discussion about contemporary music and its tendency to connect with its audience at an intellectual level rather than an emotional one.
Kammersveitin asamisimasa flytur verkið Music as Emotion eftir Trond Reinholdtsen. Í verkinu leitar tónskáldið ráða hjá sálfræðingi um hvernig hann geti skapað persónulegri list. Spurningar hans um tilfinningar innan tónlistar eru í senn hnyttnar og samhliða umræðum um samtímatónlist og tilhneigingu hennar til að tengjast áheyrendum sínum vitsmunalega frekar en tilfinningalega.
The ensemble asamisimasa from Norway is one of the leading ensembles for contemporary music in the Nordic countries. asamisimasa has collaborated with many of the greatest composers of the early 21st century and has dedicated itself to avant-garde music. asamisimasa was founded in 2001 by musicians sharing a passion and interest in avant-garde music and its history. Since then, the ensemble has premiered numerous cross-media works especially written for them, often contextualized with classical repertoire and historical avant-garde work. asamisimasa has collaborated with composers such as Helmut Lachenmann, Mathias Spahlinger, Nicolaus A. Huber, Aldo Clementi, Alvin Lucier, Brian Ferneyhough, Helmut Oehring, Clemens Gadenstätter, Klaus Lang, Johannes Kreidler, Joanna Bailie, and extensively with cross-media composers such as Simon Steen-Andersen, Øyvind Torvund, Martin Schüttler, Matthew Shlomowitz, and Trond Reinholdtsen. Performances include Berlin Philharmonie – Debüt im Deutschlandradio Kultur, WDR Cologne, Darmstadt, Donaueschingen, Ultraschall, Ultima, Huddersfield, Rainy Days, Monday Evening Concerts LA, Other Minds Festival (San Francisco) Cutting Edge (London), Angelica and SPOR a.o. Their first two recordings, with music by Simon Steen-Andersen (DK) and Øyvind Torvund (NO), were awarded the prestigious Norwegian Spellemann prize for best contemporary music record of the year. Upcoming releases include portrait CDs with works by Laurence Crane (UK), and Trond Reinholdtsen (NO).
Trond Reinholdtsen graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music. His first pieces were modernistic, complex works in the German style alongside other works by composers of the complexity generation. He has also made a name for himself as a singer in the group Nordic Voices. His music has developed in an extreme, performative direction; pure music is laced with various extra-musical forms of expression such as essayistic interpretations, live-camera filming and elements including statistical facts, face-making etc., collectively called “opra”. These highly original performances have been presented at festivals such as Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Donaueschingen Musiktage, MaerzMusik and Ultraschall. A selection of works: Faust or the Decline of Western Music (piano, performance), Orpheus (opra). Musik (opra–ensemble, Power Point, composer’s explanations, machines), Psalm (Narrative Studies) (sinfonietta).
Af tónleikum sveitarinnar má nefna Berlin Philharmonie – Debüt im Deutschlandradio Kultur, WDR Cologne, Darmstadt, Donaueschingen, Ultraschall, Ultima, Huddersfield, Rainy Days, Monday Evening Concerts LA, Other Minds Festival í San Francisco, Cutting Edge í London, Angelica og SPOR svo fátt eitt sé talið. Fyrstu tvær hljóðritanir sveitarinnar með tónlist eftir danska tónskáldið Simon Steen-Andersen og norska tónskáldið Øyvind Torvund hlutu Spellemann eða norsku Grammy verðlaunin fyrir bestu hljóðritun ársins á samtímatónlist. Sveitin hyggur á frekari útgáfu þar sem verk eftir breska tónskáldið Laurence Crane og norska tónskáldið Trond Reinholdtsen er að finna.
Trond Reinholdtsen útskrifaðist frá Norsku tónlistarakademíunni. Fyrstu verk hans voru flókin, módernísk verk í þýskum stíl, samtíma öðrum tónskáldum af flækjukynslóðinni. Hann hefur einnig skapað sér nafn sem söngvari í hópnum Nordic Voices. Tónlist hans hefur þróast út í öfgakennda performansátt; hrein tónlist er skreytt með mismunandi tjáningarmátum er tengjast ekki tónlist eins og túlkaðar ritgerðir, myndatökur í rauntíma og element eins og tölfræðilegar staðreyndir, andlitstjáningar o.fl. undir samheitinu “opra”. Þessir mjög svo frumlegu gjörningar hafa farið fram á hátíðum eins og Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Donaueschingen Musiktage, MaerzMusik og Ultraschall. Nokkur verka hans eru m.a.: Faust or the Decline of Western Music (píanó, performans), Orpheus (opra). Musik (opra–kammerhópur, Power Point, útskýringar tónskálds, vélar), Psalm (Narrative Studies) (sinfóníetta).
